Richard Bozic started off as a heavy metal musician in Cleveland, gradually expanding his scope from the local band scene to the classical music scene in the Tri-State area. "I remember the day I picked up an electric guitar at my buddy's house growing up, I was instantly absorbed! I grew up listening to a lot of different music at home and with friends, and now I held in my hands a way to create my own!"
Soon after this discovery, he formed a band with friends; songwriting took hold, along with a voracious desire to constantly improve. He took a chance at the mic when a lead-singer opportunity opened up. "The guitar was a gateway to singing for me, all of the tonal possibilities inspired so much creativity. But, being able to use your own voice to directly communicate your creation is unparalleled."
This led to serious voice study, opening the door to solo and ensemble-based performances while participating in various bands. "I remember the deep satisfaction of being immersed in music while studying at conservatory in college. It was a metal on Friday and Mozart on Monday kind of situation. A singer has to sing the music they love! As a singing teacher, I always felt great success would come if you allow the student to gravitate towards what they loved to sing while cultivating a sense of curiosity and exploration. I have learned that there is beauty to be found in many different styles and genres, but you must be open to it."
His teaching style can be described as having a contemporary approach grounded in classical fundamentals, combining technique and artistry tailored to the needs of the modern singer. Guiding the singer to maintain a healthy and flexible technique with a strong emotional/dramatic connection to the music, is paramount in serving the art in each song or role.
